We know the quarantine has put a strain on children and parents, who are now forced to play at home, but we would like to transform it in an opportunity to reconsider game as an educational resource, sustainable and accessible to all, to be brought soon to schools and open spaces too.
Alquimétricos has created an open-source platform, to download from internet models of DIY toy components, completely free of charge, capable of stimulating the child's creativity, of promoting an approach to sustainability (using organic materials and/or recycling what is available at home), while facilitating active and constructive learning of geometry, maths, architecture, mechanics, physics and much more!
Alquimétricos has already brought its idea to many disadvantaged communities around the world and would like to continue providing tools and models in free sharing to all, without any need of purchase; for this reason, today we are launching a crowdfunding campaign intended to support the project.
Help us making cool educational toys available to everybody everywhere leaving the smallest possible print.
Supporters will gain access to video tutorials, digital blueprints, and mounting instructions for dozens of models, weeks before its official release.
Also, will have access to a dedicated channel full of sneak peeks, making-ofs, live workshops, personalized support, direct contact with the creators, special gifts, and many other surprises!
“Toys should be free for the children and for the planet"
That’s why for each contributor that supports us, we will make available to a Brazilian educational institution or social initiative from a low-income community the entire range of our open educational resources.
So we can all be part of the same community, learning while doing and having fun.
All our content will be released freely some weeks after the campaign ends using the Creative Commons licensing model.
Waarom is dit belangrijk
We think that quality educational material should be available to everybody, despite their financial or social background.
Unfortunately, most part of the global population cannot afford to buy a cool set of building blocks systems to learn-by-playing on architecture, mechanics, or robotics.
That's why we have created an open-source, DIY collection of connectors that you can fabricate at home using very simple and cheap tools and even cheaper materials. You can even recycle some stuff you'd probably trash anyway!
You don't only end up with the toys in your hands, but you learn how to make them yourself, for good. Virtually infinite pieces and projects can be created at home using very few material resources and stimulating a creative process along with your children.
Help us make that knowledge available to thousands of kids with lesser opportunities living in vulnerable communities in Latin America.
Alquimétricos was founded in 2015 in Argentina by Fernando Daguanno, who immediately moved to Brazil, where the project developed and gained a dozen of prizes. Fernando is a maker and artist, open-knowledge activist and a recycle fan!
Alquimétricos' collective is vast and international. In this campaign, we count on the help of
- Rudá Cordaro, filmmaker
- Beatriz Quadros, Illustrator
- Tatiana Tabak, designer, and educator
The Connective is an Italian consultancy and research cooperative created to support the transition to the New Economy of the Commons and today we present the Alquimétricos project, an international collective of innovators, educators, and artists, born to offer you an interesting alternative to expensive, digital and/or not very educational games.
