The humanitarian crisis that is currently happening in Europe regarding the people who migrate from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran or Iraq, among others, can not be resolved without the visibility of the situation and empowerment of the citizens for their action in consequence.
Refugeless is a cinematographic project with both a social and humanitarian nature. It is a project that embraces a therapeutic and positive action for the refugee families disseminated all over Europe, as well as a final product which will consist on a documentary. It's a large scale project which aims to bring closer emotionally and sentimentally the families of those refugee people disseminated over Europe, but also to register and spread the situations of each member, wherever he or she is, in order to have a more global view and be able to tell accurately what this people is really living and feeling.
This project has two parts:
(1) the private and therapeutic one, and
(2) the public and claiming one.
We want to connect the families disaggregated all over Europe by private messages which will be sent among the beloveds and which we will show personally. Moreover, we want to listen all they have to tell us about who they are, their past, present and wishes of future, as well as their opinion and many other things in order to, finally, develop a documentary to criticize the European asylum system, the lacks of family reunification and the situation of these families who don't see each other for months.
• It's not an attempt of personal profit (economic), nor the search of fame.
• It's nothing like a sensationalist project, but an attempt to reflect reality.
• It isn't connected to any political party, although it can be related to a certain ideology.
• There is no other goal than the project's own.
Refugeless has a number of objectives which are explained next and whose order doesn't imply greater importance nor relevance:
-Protest and claim about the multiple human right's violations that are actually taking place regarding to refugees; as well as fight against racism, xenophobia and all kind of discrimination surrounding this situation.
-Reflect the human part of the refugee crisis in Europe - ignored by mass media- individualizing the different experiences of the same war by the different participants in the project.
-Bring families closer and connect them with messages of support, tenderness or wishes, encouraging sincerity and emotional communication between beloved ones and contributing with a therapeutic touch for the people involved in the project, so that they get a direct profit.
-Contrast and compare the experiences of the people applying for asylum in Greece and the ones who already got the resolution, being granted in European countries. This way, we intend to make visible the deficiencies and gaps existing in this European asylum system.
-Sensitize and raise awareness about the current humanitarian crisis, as well as generate empathy and certain emotions through the audiovisual materials that lead to a mobilization by the citizens towards the resolution of this problem.
Refugeless is a wide scale project that embraces two different ways of acting:
-First one is a direct action for the refugee families that are actually disaggregated over Europe waiting to meet again (if bureaucracy allows them). It consist in a network of private messages that offers the opportunity to be honest, to say what a regular day they don't say through the mobile's screen. One of the most common problems in these cases of physical separation with our beloveds consist in loss of communication: with the excuse to avoid to worry the other, information is omitted or reality is tergiversated, causing more harm in the long run. Through this system of private messages, this people can get back this lost confidence and create stronger bonds that will help them face the hard situation they are living in a healthier way.
-The second action mode consist on achieving a massive diffusion of the reality of the problem, with the intention of encouraging empathy and mobilization by the citizens to press on governments towards a solution, either by opening the borders or ending the war in the different countries in the Middle East where Europe acts. This will be done by different ways. First of all, there will be a constant following of the progress of the project through social networks, so that everyone can know anytime where we are, with whom, doing what and how we manage the money. Once we have finished the project, with all this material we will create a documentary on the project itself. And last, it will be done a documentary piece to reflect the situation of these people, without asylum and with it, the lacks of the family reunification system, the suffering because of the separation,… told through their own voices and aiming to reach as many people as possible. Refugeless is not only a documentary, it's a humanitarian project which embraces a problem of which little is said: the division of families in Europe. Minors who can't reach their parents, women in charge of her sons who can't get together with their husbands, sisters and brothers who stay in the never ending wait for reunification… this is all due to a deficient and precarious bureaucratic system which doesn't let them something as simple as the right of free mobility.
Waarom is dit belangrijk
The project Refugeless is addressed to the people we call "refugees" but have no decent refuge. It's addressed in first place to all of them, directly (through the message system) and indirectly (encouraging mobilization and protests from the citizens in order to solve this problem).
We are driven by the frustration that stuck in us after several months of intensive work in Athens. Help there is very needed, but in order to end with this crisis is necessary to attack the problem to its roots, fighting for a fair and human Europe. From Athens it is possible to help these people survive, but to actually get decent living conditions for everyone, it is necessary to rise to a global scale, and act all together, through people's mobilizations making pressure on governments.
Doelen van de crowdfunding campagne
We try to involve as many people as possible, people who feel identified with us in order to, together, push in the same direction. We believe in people, in teamwork. No big efforts are needed if we are enough. This project won't be possible without the collaboration of all who throw themselves into action, judging by their own criteria what is moral and what it's not in the middle of the century XXI.
Jose - photographer and cameraman - and Eva - psychologist and writer-, the two promoters of the project, were independent volunteers in Athens for several months. They collaborated actively in the squats management, in things such as maintenance, shelter and other functions for life in community. Moreover, Eva worked as a psychologist with the help of an interpreter and started to write anonymous stories inspired by real cases which were spread through her blog "Flores en las grietas" ("flowers in the cracks"), and were published in press. Jose devoted himself to diffusion of what was happening there with a photographic and literary project called "La Caja Márner" ("Márner's Box").
After the experience they reached the conclusion that it is necessary to attack this humanitarian crisis problem to its roots, and for that it is necessary to fight against the wave of racism through sensitizing and massive visibility of what is happening. Jose and Eva embark themselves in the project Refugeless, pretending to wake up the most human side of the European citizens. They currently count with the support of all the people who are favorable to the cause in order to get the resources and materials needed.
