Beneficios de la Psicoterapia Asistida con Animales

Hoy, la psicóloga de la asociación, Laura Oliva, nos presenta un artículo en el que nos habla sobre los numerosos beneficios que aporta el vínculo humano-animal a las personas:

  • las personas propietarias de animales tienen por lo general un mayor umbral de tolerancia al estrés (Allen et. al., 1991)
  • la presión arterial disminuye después de haber tenido contacto con un animal doméstico (Stasi et al., 2004)
  • los niveles de neurotransmisores varían significativamente (Odendaal y Meintjes, 2003)

El hecho de que los niños tengan mascota está muy asociado a un buen desarrollo psico-social, sobre todo en lo que se refiere a competencia social, empatía y cooperación (Poresky y Hendrix, 1990).

El gran poder terapéutico de los animales y más concretamente de los perros está provocando un auge en la investigación especializada dentro del ámbito de la Psicoterapia Asistida con Animales y el principal referente a nivel nacional es el Grupo Qualiker, ligado a la Universidad del País Vasco y con quien colaboramos en nuestro programa CRAE; este grupo, además, está empezando a tener visibilidad también en el panorama internacional.
