General information

Our project
Creating an educational and artistic center in the mountains of Asturias, to promote movement and well-being for the local community. Expand nationally and internationally by inviting interested parties to enjoy this meeting place between nature and culture.

What we offer

  • Weekly psychomotor classes for children.
  • Weekly classes on body awareness, yoga and stretching for adults and seniors.
  • Monthly movement research weekend intensives for an experienced audience.
  • Artistic research and creation residencies for both national and international artists.
  • Summer camps for groups to investigate movement in indoor and outdoor spaces.

The beginning
This summer we decided as a family to move to the countryside and root ourselves here with a common life project. The idea for Sala Sabil arises from the lack of offer of activities for well-being and physical care in the Valles del Trubia, where we found our home. We did research in the municipality and the adjoining municipalities to find demand from neighbors for this type of activity, and found there was nothing.

Why CROWDFOUNDING
The latest regulations forced us to delay the opening of the space and not be able to generate the necessary economy to continue taking steps in the realization and implementation of the project. Following the advice of family, friends and peers to go through with the project, we decided to trust in a social economy that helps us carry our dream to the end.

Journey
Having a journey related to movement, we enthusiastically decided to open a space dedicated to activities such as dance, yoga, body awareness, improvisation and artistic research and creation. Education through movement teaches us the signals of the body. Our body communicates and reflects how we feel and offers us constant information about our state of mind. Our body expression denotes our internal sensations and supports us in our development in all areas. The rural environment gathers the characteristics for reflection in research and creation processes.

Strengths
This project, due to its novel format, aims to attract people who have the desire to learn, take care of themselves and feel better physically and mentally, with the difference that our we are located in a natural environment in the heart of the Asturian mountains. Simultaneously it aims to bring the activities closer to the people of the municipality, we wish to increase citizen participation with respect to traditional cultural events. We will carry out different activities that will make the space known, through an attractive program and collaboration with local and international entities. We will combine the best of the intercultural within the rural.

Belangrijkste kenmerken

Goals
We observed that in the cities whilst there is an agglomeration of educational spaces with cultural offers, cities are unstable environments disconnected from nature, liable to collapse and involving a lot of time travelling from A to B. This is why we want to propose:

• To place education through movement in another context where to find space, air, freshness, light, tranquility, silence, wide landscapes, trees, water, earth ...

• Favor and enable this center in nature where to educate, investigate and create through movement and dance, fostering synergies with other spaces for residencies and education.

• Teach and educate based on movement, developing projects in the field, generating networks between the local community and the participants.

• Focus on the local population by offering weekly movement classes for children, yoga and body awareness for adults and seniors.

• Take advantage and use the space to invite international teachers to generate movement encounters and dance workshops on a professional level

• Open calls for artistic research and creation residencies for individuals, groups and companies.

Potential

  • We will prepare a calendar of events on a national and international level, since there is an international airport 45 minutes away, helping the diversity between cultures.
  • We chose this municipality because of the unique rural environment that it offers, as well as the lack of Sala Sabil style activities available before
  • We have the opportunity to have a spacious and bright room of almost a 100 m2 where we can carry out our activities. In addition to another room with tables and computers to work if necessary.
  • Noting that there is no other offer in all Valles del Trubia, we would be pioneers in the programming of activities such as those offered by the Sala Sabil.

Actions
The money raised will be invested in improvements of the space to obtain licenses, all of which are necessary to reach the end of the project. The actions are for the placement and installation of:

  • Dampening and soundproofing layer under wooden layer
  • Sprung flooring with wooden finish
  • Basic lighting of the space.
  • Ventilation system.
  • Professional website and brand image.
  • Basic equipment of the room, cleaning material, yoga material and sound equipment.

Waarom is dit belangrijk

Motivation
We are a group of educators, dance artists and organizers of movement and dance events. We love teaching what we've learned and sharing with more bodies to investigate, create, and keep learning. We’ve been working and collaborating with many people and spaces for years and launched ourselves with all our love and experience to finally create our project of life and community. For us, human beings and nature are inseparable, so we have two homes: the earth, and our bodies. Caring for both is important, and we should never neglect either one. For us, moving to the countryside was the solution to this - a way of living in harmony with our values, thoughts and actions, and inviting other people to join in.

We are directed towards
To all the people who feel that the body is their home and that is why we have to listen to it, taking into account our needs as individuals and their needs as an ecosystem, one cannot live without the other. To people who have creativity as one of their main values, for which it is necessary to investigate and practice movement. We want to contribute to culture, knowing the difficulty as artists of obtaining residencies due to the existing demand, providing a space with everything necessary to make it possible.

Leaving the city for the countryside and bringing innovation here is a solution, a way of living in harmony with our values, thoughts and actions and inviting other people to join.

Team en ervaring

Previous experience
Our team has years of experience in teaching, creating and promoting dance and movement. We have an extensive network of students, artists, collaborators and cultural agents willing to support this project in its realization, support and use of the space.

Entities
The project has an associative vocation, so we have local and international entities to complete the technical and human team that will make up the project. In the first place, we have the entities of the Villanueva de Santo Adriano council, to accommodate the participants of the different weekend activities and facilitate needs as they pass through the town. In the place where the space is located there is public parking, restaurant and a hotel. At the same time, we have international associations and entities with which to collaborate to publicize the project and generate networks and synergies.
