First edition of the SOLC Festival · Bioart & Society in a rural space and with powerful tools: your senses and emotions. The Festival connects contemporary artistic practices with people and environment, with human and non-human beings, with episodes of life living memory and “objects”, the memory of which move us. A driving force that unites us and transforms us as resilient communities. A festival of arts, actions and research that wants to draw the ever-changing line between urban and rural forms. This is an opportunity to accredit the narratives and experiences between one and the other, a gap that is that is no longer binary and has already being filled with imaginaries and realities.
Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.
The SOLC Festival · Bioart & Society will take place in the form of four horizons:
- a stay in Taús to debate and make visible the practices around Bioart - inseparable from the non-anthropocentric social principle - Society - our relationship as a group between humans, non-humans and emotional objects. A meeting between artists, researchers and activists;
- the Festival is also a day of discovery, thought for an active public thanks to our workshops;
- above all, it is an on-site presentation of the works carried out expressly for Taús environment and that will also be presented in the Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació de Barcelona;
- finally, a starting point for encouraging a perspective of equity and accessibility; it is a unique moment to reflect commonly on the non-exclusion of people with disabilities in a unique environment: a cultural activity that takes place in a rural space.
The SOLC Festival · Bioart & Society makes sense when it takes place in a rural space such as the town of Taús, between Pallars Sobirà and Alt Urgell; On Friday May 13th of 2022 we will work with the creators and on the 14th we will make a presentation to the public. In order to amplify significantly the Festival, we will meet again, a few days later, in the framework of the Fabra I Coats - Center de Contemporary Creation in Barcelona and we will know the project in an urban space.
When spring breaks, you can spend a day with your family and friends experimenting and discovering what makes the SOLC Festival and Bioart unique. Those artistic currents and practices that leads the creation of objects, processes, performatives and hybrid essays in the field of arts, social sciences, environmental, biological and biotechnological sciences. All of this in a crossroads of ecological and collaborative units that will help us to reflect on the human condition and the relationship we have with living non-humans and, why not, with non-living beings. Because we want also establish and give new significant to the emotional relationships with the non-living being, discovering a new perspective, leaving behind the anthropocentric view.
An event that aims to promote and value the work of artists / researchers / activists who have been developing a creative work long before the Festival; in addition and so that everyone can enjoy them, they will present their works to us in a spectacular walk through the surroundings of Taús. You will also have the opportunity to hold a workshop and taste in community the flavors of contemporary Cal Rossa cuisine.
But for those who have not been able to enjoy the day we are preparing a public and open presentation at the Fàbrica de Creació, Fabra i Coats in Barcelona, with the presence of artists / researchers / activists, as well as the inhabitants and cultural agents of Taús and the territory involved in the Festival. There will also be a walk through the Sant Andreu district and a Smell and Bioart & Society workshop just before the session.
Waarom is dit belangrijk
This proposal is addressed to the national, interregional and local population; The SOLC Festival · Bioart & Society is an opportunity to understand, experiment and imagine projects for the future thanks to the community of people who work in the fields of artistic practices, cultural management as well as social, technological, biological science research. SOLC Festival wants to develop, produce and facilitate activities, connecting and transferring knowledge among all these professionals. In fact one of the aim of the festival is blurring the boundary between these disciplines. SOLC Festival is also a creative laboratory and platform for art, science and society, a look from the Development and Sustainability Goals, SDG. A moment to wonder how can we contribute to the development of societies in a sustainable and non-dystopian way.
Team and experience
We are four professionals, we are a team; there are four of us if we add the person in charge of the nerve center in Taús.
Meritxell Virgili: curatorship, who leads and promotes the idea, responsible and coordinator In summer 2019 she won the Fabra I Coats Residence - Fàbrica de Creació de Barcelona, FiC: Cd’AC / FdC, with the Osmologies, an artistic project by the cultural entity * Omuses. The SOLC Festival is a choral project and has the participation of the following team:
Meri Martorell Mascaró: Multimedia graduate for the UOC. Freelance as Visual Designer, especially in digital format. Generalist exposure and transverse knowledge: 3D/design/motion graphics. With a heterogeneous and multi-disciplinary background he has played very varied and creative roles in the world of architecture, business events, multimedia content — social media are his priority today.
Patricia Garcia Cordova: Communication, she is recently graduated in Communication and Cultural Industries from the University of Barcelona. She has worked in the Public Department of the television production company * Gestmusic, where she managed the attendance of the public of various programs and carrying out the communication tasks of the department. Proactive and decisive, she has music and aesthetic sensibility. Social media, multimedia production (photography, video, editing and montage), writing.
Daniela Longobardi curatorship and production: she has a degree in architecture (Rome) and a Master's degree in Cultural Heritage Management and Museology (Barcelona). She collaborates with various companies and cultural institutions. She has coordinated and managed cultural projects and curated exhibitions such as "Fem_Memoria, tejer relaciones en tiempos de emergencia " or "Selfies! Del autorretrato al microrrelato " for the MUEC of Barcelona. For the same museum, in collaboration with Omuses, she designed a museographic project for "Las Pervivencias Olfativas en BCN". In 2021, within the framework of "IPER festival" organized by the RIF Museum in Rome, she collaborated in the organization and coordination of the conference "Inhabiting the city: a dialogue between Barcelona and Rome".
Cal Rossa de Taús: ecotourism: www.calrossa.com. Family project of rural tourism and local development created under the value of sustainability for giving life in its territory. All these reasons are enough to support the SOLC Festival · Bioart Society proposal. Furthermore, Cal Rossa is the ideal space and focus center due to its link to the tangible and intangible heritage of Taús. Cal Rossa collaborates with chef Gabi de Cuberes, whose organic cuisine we would define as seasonal, local and contemporary.
Meritxell Virgili Arumi: works in social and artistic curatorial practices. Her trainining as an anthropologist and as a plastic artist is a background that has been defining her for 20 years.
These aspects have been influenced her method of observation and strategy of work that is possible to recognised in all her cultural projects. In research ambit as well as in the innovation and new creative sectors.
Indeed, this way of communication with more claiming content towards people links to eco-poetic creation and gives her the tools to imagine and produce new collective spaces. She is using techniques based on objectivity, intelligence and rigorous dialectical method. Her goal is to transform the look of art and design in the social and biological sciences, in technology and engineering while promoting education. This is the way to promote innovation in companies and cultural and heritage projects.
Since 2008 she has been taking a break in artistic production to dedicate herself to study and reserch. Ten years later, she focused her activity with the artistic and cultural projects Omuses.barcelona and the artistic proposal Osmologies. In 2019 she won a residence at FiC: Cd'AC / FdC of Barcelona.
She is currently organizing and preparing the presentation of the Round Table: Bioarte & Society; a call for proposals for the 2nd Catalan Anthropology Congress, CoCA'22, Catalan Institute of Anthropology, ICA. She is part of the xarxaOdeuropa Network - see Odeuropa.eu/network/ and on the map-.
This is a management project to bring together the efforts of the European scientific community and acquiring tools and data to identify, consolidate and promote the broad roles of "smells" in our cultural heritage.
